NSW Govt. Small Business Fees & Charges Grant

The NSW Government has announced a new Rebate which your business may be eligible for. The rebate is a maximum of $1,500 available to businesses from 1 March 2021 to 30 June 2022 and is designed to help businesses recover for the impacts of Covid-19 by reducing the running cost of business.


Eligibility:


  • Have total Australian wages below the NSW Payroll Tax Threshold ($1.2M) (You can be a Sole Trader with no Australian Wages)
  • Have a valid ABN
  • Be registered for GST
  • Be based in NSW
  • Provide a declaration (Accountant’s Letter) that your business has a turnover of at least $75,000 per year (cannot include rental income)
  • Have already incurred the cost/s you are claiming for


What can you claim for:


In order to receive the Rebate, you must incur costs on eligible NSW and local government fees and charges incurred from 1 March 2021, these include;

  • Food authority licences
  • Liquor licences
  • Tradesperson licences
  • Event fees
  • Outdoor seating fees
  • Council rates
  • Motor Vehicle Registration *Vehicle must be in the business name)


You must have incurred the cost before you can claim the rebate. You only need to apply for the rebate once, but you can make multiple claims for eligible costs up to 30 June 2022 (until your business reaches the $1500 maximum).


What can’t you claim for:


Some specifically excluded item include;

  • Fines and penalties
  • Fees and charges in place that have the key purpose of discouraging or inducing behaviour changes
  • Commonwealth government charges
  • Rent on government premises
  • NSW and Commonwealth government taxes (e.g. Land Tax)


Next Steps:


One of the supporting documents required when submitting your online application is an accountant’s letter with the appropriate declaration. Our fee for the preparation of this is $150 + GST. Should you like us to prepare the Accountant’s Letter, could you please confirm via reply email.
 
Once you have your Accountant’s letter you can apply for the rebate through your Service NSW account.
